56-year-old thought the van was covered by insurance
A Douglas man has been fined £1,150 after driving a borrowed van that was in a dangerous condition.
Fergal Patrick O'Connor, of Harris Terrace, also admitted driving with no licence or insurance during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse.
The 56-year-old was driving on Market Street, at 8.30am on 26 April, when officers stopped him using a stinger.
The van was wanted in connection with a separate offence.
O'Connor's advocate told the court he had thought the van was covered by his work insurance policy.
Fining him, and ordering him to pay £50 in prosecution costs, Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood told him: "It is important to check the policies rather than assume you are covered."
O'Connor’s driving licence was also endorsed with 11 penalty points.
