21-year-old admits being in charge of vehicle
A motorist who was caught in his vehicle whilst he was five times over the legal drug drive limit has been fined £500.
Police found Jack John Cubbon, from Agneash, parked in Onchan at 8.40pm on 16 April – his keys were in his hand and the ignition was on.
Officers could smell cannabis and detained the 21-year-old for a drug search – a drug wipe test was also administered.
Cubbon was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters where subsequent blood tests were carried out – Cubbon recorded a reading of 10, the legal limit is 2.
He told officers he’d smoked the Class B drug the night before.
During sentencing at Douglas Courthouse Cubbon’s advocate described the offence as an ‘error of judgement’ adding: “It’s disappointing to reflect that Mr Cubbon’s good character is effectively lost.”
Describing the reading as ‘extremely high’ Magistrates also ordered him to pay £125 in prosecution costs.
They added 10 penalty points to his driving licence telling him: “Hopefully we will not be seeing you in court again in the future.”
“You will not,” Cubbon replied.
