Conservationists in the Isle of Man say they're stunned by the number of sanitary items picked up during a beach clean at the weekend.
More than 7,000 tampons, pads, baby wipes and cotton buds were found by Beach Buddies volunteers on Ramsey beach, just three months after they removed thousands more from the same stretch of coastline.
The charity estimates somewhere in the region of 50,000 such items are being disposed of this way annually in the north alone, causing massive pollution and a potential health hazard.
The sewerage system there doesn't have a filter, which would prevent these things getting through, although it's understood one is due to be fitted next year.
