Douglas man admits dangerous driving during TT

A Douglas man who crashed his car on the Mountain Road during TT was travelling at up to 140mph, a court's heard.

Twenty-four-year-old Adam Andrew Quayle of Springfield Avenue appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

He admitted dangerous driving and having a dangerous or unroadworthy vehicle, but pleaded not guilty to having no tax, fraudulently using a tax disc and fraudulent use of a registration mark.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the hearing Quayle was driving a Honda Accord with two passengers inside when he lost control near Windy Corner on 9 June.

One passenger filmed on their phone as Quayle drove at high speeds over the Mountain Road and tried to overtake another vehicle at the 32nd milestone.

However, he lost control and the car crashed off the road and into a field, throwing a back seat passenger fifty metres – the court heard Quayle's vehicle didn't have working rear seatbelts.

His advocate told the court the route had been one-way for TT when the incident happened, and there were no speed restrictions in place.

Magistrates bailed Quayle in the sum of £500 and committed him to a Court of General Gaol Delivery, where he’s due to appear on 16 December.
