Newly-elected members to take oath of office
Elected members of the House of Keys will today (29 September) be asked to take the oath of office.
And they will sign a book which has recorded the names of members over the decades.
Until they do so they will not be able to take part in Keys proceedings.
Present for this ceremony are officers not usually present; the chief registrar and the two deemsters.
The registrar will bring the Liber Juramentorum, or 'Book of Oaths', and each member must sign it.
The deemsters will also sign to prove or "attest" that the oaths have been administered and the signatures added.
The oath includes the words: "You shall use your best endeavours to maintain the ancient laws and customs of this Isle.
"You shall justly and truly deliver your opinion and do right in all matters which shall be put unto you, without favour or affection, affinity or consanguinity (that's giving preference to relations), love or fear, reward or gain, or for any hope thereof; but in all things you shall deal uprightly and justly and do wrong to no man."
The oath can taken in English or in Manx; the first decision new members will take as fledgling MHKs.
The proceedings will start at 11.30am.
