Decision to be reviewed in near future
Cost pressures mean the Manx Museum does not generally open on Sundays.
However, Economic Development Minister Laurence Skelly, says that will be reviewed in the near future.
Middle MHK Bill Shimmins raised the issue in Tynwald today (Tues) and was told while the facility opened on occasional Sundays for cruise ship visitors and during busy periods, such as the TT and the Festival of Motorcycling, it could not afford to open every Sunday within existing budgets.
Ayre, Castletown and Malew member Jason Moorhouse suggested an entrance charge be imposed similar to other MNH facilities.
Mr Skelly confirmed some of its other sites, such as the Grove Museum and House of Manannan, did open on a Sunday and admitted Manx National Heritage would welcome extra opening.
B/A: He added a trial period, when the museum opened on Sundays on an ad-hoc basis during the period 2007-09, proved inconclusive of whether there was demand for the extra opening.
