It still unknown how a 52 year old Douglas man came to drown in the capital.
Coroner of Inquests John Needham recorded a narrative verdict at the inquiry into the death of Kevin Wilkinson.
The former chef, who was initially from Durham, was found face down in the River Douglas after a passer-by raised the alarm last December.
Mr Needham said CCTV footage showed Mr Wilkinson entering the Nunnery Mills carpark near the river on the Old Castletown Road, but it wasn't clear if he fell in or committed suicide.
There was nothing to suggest Mr Wilkinson was suicidal and he had no alcohol or drugs in his blood.
However, the Coroner said there was evidence that Mr Wilkinson had suffered from hallucinations so this may have been a factor.
Mr Needham said it was clear from the evidence that Mr Wilkinson, who lived on Stanley Road in Douglas, was a gentle soul and would be greatly missed by his friends and family.
