Officer speaks out after conviction of Douglas man
It's never too late to report abuse to police.
That's according to the temporary Detective Superintendent of Cumbria Police, Doug Marshall.
He was commenting following the conviction of a former school owner and Douglas resident on historic child cruelty charges.
Seventy-seven year-old Derrick Cooper of Hillberry Green, who ran Underley Hall in Kirkby Lonsdale for more than two decades, was found guilty of two offences dating back to the 1970s and 1980s.
He was acquitted of six other charges.
DS Marshall says it was a complex case - but the outcome proves the effort was worth it.
Cooper was bailed and will be sentenced on April 26th. Judge James Adkin said he would be considering all sentencing options.
