Professor hopes it will mean patients spend more time at home
A new brain tumour pathway which has been introduced on the Isle of Man is helping to ensure patients spend more time at home than in hospital.
That’s the view of Professor Andrew Brodbelt – the lead for neurosurgical oncology at the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool.
He’s told Manx Radio recent improvements made between Manx Care and the UK hospitals mean people are having to travel off Island less frequently:
Around 30 new patients with brain tumours are seen from the Island each year.
Professor Andrew Brodbelt – who is also the honorary clinical associate professor at the University of Liverpool - was on the Island last week (12 September) as part of a 'meet the consultant' event.
It was organised by Naseem's Manx Brain Tumour Charity.
