New legislation coming up in the area
Legislating for animal welfare - that's first priority for our new director of Animal and Plant Health.
Alistair Breed has taken up the post in the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture - including the role as chief veterinary officer.
He's taking over from Stewart Jaques after his departure from DEFA - but has additional responsibility for Plant Health and disease prevention.
Mr Breed joined the department 24 years ago - he says he has a clear idea of what to tackle first:
