Initiative hopes to bridge skills gap
A number of vacant catering jobs are behind a new initiative designed to help develop local chefs.
The Manx Culinary Scheme is the brainchild of local hoteliers and University College Isle of Man, and aims to bridge the skills gap within the catering industry.
Starting in September, apprentices can take part in a 12 month programme, which includes one day a week at UCM and four days in a working kitchen.
By the end, successful apprentices will be awarded a NVQ Level 2 diploma in Professional Cookery.
Managing Director at Sleepwell Hotels, Mark Wilson, says perceptions about working in the restaurant industry need to change:
The scheme is open to anyone over 16 and you can apply by emailing chris.franklin@ucm.ac.im or calling 648344.
