There’ll be two by-elections in Douglas this year – but the successful candidates will only have around 16 months before they’ll have to face voters again.
This morning, North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson will join Legislative Council alongside his South Douglas colleague David Cretney after both were elevated yesterday.
Nine rounds of voting though, couldn’t fill all four vacant seats and there’ll be new Legco elections in the near future.
After yesterday’s result, Mr Henderson admitted he’d been surprised to have been voted onto Tynwald’s upper chamber so quickly . . whilst Mr Cretney added he was grateful to have garnered the 13 votes needed – despite electoral tricks during the process
