David Ashford MHK unanimously elected this week
The new Speaker of the House of Keys says the nature of the role means he remains very much engaged in politics.
Douglas North MHK David Ashford was unanimously elected as Speaker this week, having been the only candidate for the position.
It means Chief Minister Alfred Cannan has taken over the position of Cabinet Office Minister on an interim basis.
Mr Ashford says previous holders of the role, including Sir Charles Kerruish, have shown that becoming Speaker does not necessarily mark the end of an active political career:
