
Two Manxmen have been recognised in the Queen's New Year honours list.
Mark Shimmin – who retired as Chief Financial Officer in April after a 30 year career in the civil service - has been awarded an MBE for services to the Isle of Man Government and the economy.
Mr Shimmin had been the driving force behind the Small Countries Financial Management Programme and worked with six different Treasury Ministers.
He says the honour should be felt by the whole civil service.
Meanwhile, former Clerk to Port Erin Commissioners Michal Kewley is to receive the British Empire Medal for services to local government.
He retired in February after almost 30 years in the role and 40 years with the local authority in total.
Mr Kewley worked to ensure the provision of sheltered housing for the elderly in Port Erin and had been involved with Rushen Parish PCC, Rushen Silver Band, and Island swimming.
