Steam Packet bosses say its part of an 'ongoing assessment' as it explores contingency options and stress no scheduled sailings will be affected.
Last week, politicians failed to support the firm's offer to continue running services after 2026 - saying they're considering a range of options for potential operators.
A spokesperson from the Department of Infrastructure insists government has a strong, working relationship with the Steam Packet.
They claim government was fully aware of the trials taking place and it supports any exercise the company takes to improve its services.
Packet CEO Mark Woodward says the trials at Larne were planned some time before the decision in Tynwald:
