Onchan MHK raises safety concerns
An MHK has failed in his bid to instigate a detailed examination of phone masts in the Isle of Man.
Onchan member David Quirk called for a three member select committee to be formed after raising concerns about emissions and safety guidelines which, he suggested, may now be outdated due to advances in technology.
However, amid comical scenes in Tynwald, there was much confusion as Mr Quirk's motion actually focused on radio masts and there was an amendment from Malew and Santon member Graham Cregeen to allow it to centre on phone masts.
Although it wasn't supported, Mr Quirk raised the issue as he doesn’t believe the findings of a 2009 government report on the matter have been fully addressed.
