The Island's director of public transport says Boxing Day bus services this year are not economically viable.
Ian Longworth says putting on even a skeleton service on the bank holiday would cost the department £8,000 for revenue likely to be less than a quarter of that figure.
The cost is partly the result of bank holiday rates agreed with drivers.
Mr Longworth predicts fewer people would use the bus than on a normal Sunday anyway, as many shops will not be open this Boxing Day.
He says he and his colleagues had a long hard look at realistic numbers of passengers, and concluded the numbers don't stack up:
Glencrutchery Road to close to northbound traffic
Several sailings at risk or cancelled due to adverse weather
MHK's shock over Hospice announcement
Baldrine Methodist Hall is not being sold by church
Sulby Straight closure in place this weekend
