The Manx Government says it doesn’t have a definition of poverty, but is working to raise living standards.
In the House of Keys on Tuesday, Rushen MHK Juan Watterson (pictured) asked Chief Minister Tony Brown about the issue.
In particular, he wanted to know how the government defined poverty, how many people in the Isle of Man were thought to fall into the category, and what policies were in place to address the situation.
In a written reply, Mr Brown says the government hasn’t defined poverty and there is no common definition among other countries.
However, he says the government’s strategic plan is to give everybody a fair opportunity to live and prosper.
