Vehicles with restraints still up to five years from manufacture
There's no 'legally safe basis' to allow mobility scooters to use the Island's buses.
That's according to the Department of Infrastructure following a recent trial with one passenger.
Details published in this week's sitting of the House of Keys showed the passenger could access the bus, but the lack of restraints on buses in the Manx fleet meant the scooter didn't remain still.
The Department says buses fitted with such restraints are still three to five years from manufacture, and that it is committed to buy mobility scooter compliant buses when they become available.
