Soapbox Derby in Peel
One of the great events in the no-motor sport calendar takes place today.
It's the 2018 Peel Soapbox Derby (Sun 19/08).
Top racers, newcomers and those with no ability whatsoever will be taking on a fast, downhill course in the sunset city - from the top of Derby Drive in Peel, to the bottom of Stanley Road with a flying finish on the promenade.
There are also jumps and chicanes in order to increase the liklihood of some of the machines falling to pieces . . . .though the serious racers will be looking to set record times.
There are prizes to be won - but the main objective is to raise money for charity.
The event takes place from 2pm to 5pm.
