Manx Utilities allow the creamery to release by-product to sea
Manx Utilities will continue to allow the Isle of Man Creamery to pump whey into Douglas Bay, but has stressed it's not 'an open ended agreement'.
At times a white plume can be seen when the by-product is released into the sea.
The whey pipe is leased to the creamery by MU, which is confident the discharge doesn't impact on bathing water quality, and has a negligible affect on the environment.
But according to Tim Woakes, the authority's Head of Sewerage, the pipe is in need of repair:
