The commissioners voted against the plan last night
Ramsey Commissioners has voted against a proposal for a local art gallery to paint the lampost outside its shop.
Members of the local authority called it a 'ridiculous' idea and said it would be 'dangerous' to paint it due to electrical safety and its height.
It was disputed that only two and a half meters of the lampost would be painted and some of the onus would be on the commissioners to ensure its safety.
Deputy Chair Rob Cowell says he appreciates the 'ingenuity' of the idea but would prefer them to paint a shelter in Mooragh Park.
An amendment was made to say the board would support the painting of the shop if the owner decided to.
The vote against the painting of the lamppost was carried by six votes to four.
