The mobile phone policy at Noble's Hospital shows the Isle of Man can, and does, act automonously.
That's the view of director of health strategy and performance Norman McGregor Edwards, who says mobiles have been allowed in parts of the hospital for nearly a year, while the United Kingdom is only just relaxing its rules.
He says there are areas where usage is restricted because of potential interference.
But these sections, such as Intensive Care, are well signed and Mr McGregor Edwards says there have been few problems with people not complying with regulations.
He also says on the whole mobile phone users in the hospital show consideration for other patients and visitors which is important in a health environment.
