It will be at least December before the vacant seat on the Legislative Council is filled.
In the House of Keys today (Tuesday), Speaker Steve Rodan said nominations for the position would close a month today.
After that there will be a period of 14 days, during which any objections can be made, which means the earliest an election could be held would be Monday, December 12.
Mr Rodan confirmed the election would be held on that day, at a special sitting of the Keys.
The seat became vacant when Clare Christian was appointed president of Tynwald, on July 12.
