The government’s director of health strategy and performance, Norman McGregor Edwards, has been suspended from duty.
He is the subject of an internal investigation over allegations he sent inappropriate emails.
In a statement, the Department of Health and Social Security has confirmed a member of staff is currently not at work pending an internal enquiry.
The statement says the matter is being dealt with in accordance with standard Civil Service procedures and the department considers it inappropriate to offer any further comment.
