Police describe 73-year-old's death as a 'tragic accident'
Police have confirmed a visitor from Northern Ireland has died after falling into Peel Harbour.
Seventy-three-year-old Raymond Beattie, from County Down, was involved in a ‘tragic accident’ in the early hours of Wednesday, 1 June.
Officers have confirmed it happened as he, and another man, were boarding a boat that was moored within the harbour.
The other man also fell into the water but was able to get out and go to the aid of Mr Beattie.
Tributes have been paid to the ‘lifelong sailing enthusiast’ online.
Killyleagh Yacht Club has described its ‘devoted member’ as a ‘supporter to young and old across the sailing community’.
