Officers at Jurby prison are in discussion with a group of inmates who are refusing to return to their cells.
The Department of Home Affairs has described their protest as 'peaceful' and in a short statement says it's hoping the matter will be concluded through negotiation.
Reports say around 40 inmates are refusing to lock-up in a protest over the prison’s no-smoking rule.
The action’s understood to be taking place in A-wing.
There's been no comment so far from the prison. It's understood police in Ramsey are aware of the situation, but have not been asked to attend.
