Manx Utilities to investigate ways to reduce impact on properties over winter
Investigations will take place over the winter to tackle capacity issues affecting sewers in Onchan during heavy rainfall.
Manx Utilities says the expansion of Onchan without upsizing the sewer network means a number of areas are over capacity.
Onchan MHK Rob Callister asked the board when it will address the issue of raw sewage leaking into properties at Ashley Park.
In response, Manx Utilities said it's not aware of wastewater leaking into homes, but some manholes in gardens at the rear of Ashley Park do surcharge during intense rainfall events.
MU describes this as a 'legacy issue' inherited when the network was brought into central government from local authorities.
It confirmed work will continue over the winter to identify surface water flows that can be removed, and develop schemes to divert them away from properties.
Anyone affected by any flooding events can contact Manx Utilities on 687687.
