One in eight drinking above recommended weekly alcohol limit

It comes as addiction charity Motiv8 says it continues to see increased referrals over alcohol use

One in eight people who responded to a recent survey on health and wellbeing on the Island said they were drinking above the recommended weekly limit of 14 units of alcohol.

The director of public health says those in the 35 to 44 age bracket are displaying the highest risk drinking.

Meanwhile, the head of an addiction charity says it continues to see growing numbers of people being referred for support over alcohol use.

Last year, Motiv8 saw 7,500 total attendances for alcohol, and over 700 referrals.

This week is Alcohol Awareness Week, and Public Health is encouraging Manx residents to consider a couple of days alcohol free each week, and alternatives to alcohol.
