Manx identity important says petitioner
An online petition about a census question is too late for the interim survey which takes place this weekend – but may spark change in the future.
That’s the hope of the Island resident who set it up after it emerged a question about nationality will mean people have to put British rather than Manx.
Sarah Maginn, who set up the document at gopetition.com, says she hopes the next census – due in 2021 – will ask for people’s national identity or country of birth.
She says she understands that’s different to nationality, but feels the Island’s Manx identity is very important:
