An open verdict has been recorded at an inquest into the death of a 38-year old Douglas man who died from a stab wound after rowing with his girlfriend.
The hearing at Douglas Courthouse was told an ambulance was called in the early hours of June 25 last year, after John Nicolas Collister was found injured at the home of his girlfriend Joanne Watterson.
Miss Watterson told the inquest she saw her boyfriend stab himself in the chest in the kitchen of her home in Watterson's Lane. He died on the way to hospital within quarter of an hour.
A Home Office pathologist confirmed Mr Collister died from a single stab wound to the chest.
Miss Watterson told the inquest they argued after she and her nine year old son missed a boat earlier in the day.
They went to a pub and had another row when Mr Collister said he wanted to drive home.
The inquest heard she had taken diazepam, smoked cannabis and drunk the alcopop WKD that evening.
Recording an open verdict, Coroner Michael Moyle said he was satisfied the police had done everything they could in their investigations into what happened.
