Steam Packet freight surcharges are coming down, from this weekend.
From Sunday, they will drop from £8 per metre to £5, a reduction of 37 per cent.
Earlier this month, the company issued a combative response to news a Tynwald select committee was being re-formed to examine freight costs.
In a statement, chief executive Mark Woodward claimed current charges were justified and in the best interests of visitors and the Island.
The surcharge is regularly reviewed in line with an arrangement with the Department of Transport and is based on a sliding scale of marine fuel prices.
Compared to a few months ago when the price was at record levels, the reduction in fuel costs has triggered a reduction in the freight surcharge.
Passenger rates, which are subject to a different scale, will remain the same at £5.
From Sunday, the fuel surcharge will be included in the price displayed on the company’s website.
Mr Woodward says the company has not come under any pressure to reduce the surcharge and that the move was anticipated.
