The Steam Packet has produced a two page media release as its response to the ongoing criticism it is receiving in the wake of the Select Committee report.
In it, chief executive Mark Woodward says he feels some clarification is needed in relation to freight charges, the aspect of the operation which has provoked the most comment.
He says the User Agreement provides a package of obligations for the Steam Packet to fulfill, many of which are loss-making.
The freight service, he says, helps provide a sufficient level of income for the company to run those loss-making services.
Mr Woodward defends the Steam Packet's position in relation to what he calls "misleading comparisons" in the report, draws attention to the substantial sums invested in vessels and port infrastructure in recent years, and explains aspects of the fuel surcharge.
In conclusion he welcomes the Select Committee report but says he is disappointed a number of "very positive findings" were barely touched upon during Tuesday's Tynwald debate.
