Parish Walk: "How did they get on?"

Catching up with our interviewees...

More than 1,000 people took part in this year's Parish Walk. 

Last week Manx Radio brought you some of the inspirational stories behind why some competitors were taking part.

So let's see how they fared... 

'Jason McKee'

Jason McKee - who marked five years in recovery after struggling with addiction for 30 years and was raising money for Motiv8 - was aiming for Peel and almost made it all the way to Bride.

He raised (at the time of writing) £1,495 for the charity - well beyond his target of £250.

As well as raising money Jason wanted to help break down the stigma around addiction.

He's been speaking to Manx Radio's Lewis Foster about how the community spirit around the event has inspired him to take it on again next year:

'Iain Wrigley'

Iain Wrigley - who was left unable to walk or talk after suffering a catastrophic stroke in 2023 - made it to Rushen.

He raised £2,800 for The Manx Stroke Foundation in the process.

In a note on his fundraising page Iain said: "I’m sorry to say I had to retire at Rushen. It was just too much to face the Sloc.

"I’d like to take the time to thank each and every one of you for supporting me.

"Training starts tomorrow for next year…"

'The McDonald Family'

We also heard from the McDonald family - siblings Elaine, Paul, Eoin and Fiona - who were raising money for PSPA Ireland.

They undertook the challenge in memory of their dad who lived on the Island from 1987 until 2004 and who died last year after a battle with progressive supranuclear palsy.

Elaine made it to Jurby and Fiona to Maughold. 

Brothers Paul and Eoin made it all the way to the finish - crossing the line together holding up a t-shirt with the charity emblazoned on it - in a time of 23 hours 28 minutes and 19 seconds.

Together they've raised just over €19,000 for the charity.

'Courtney Brooker'

And Courtney Brooker was walking to raise money for Rebecca House Children's Hospice as a thank you for all the work they've done with her son, Harvey.

She was aiming to get to Rushen but made it to Peel - and raised £1,562 along the way!
