Manx Care says it would cost £500,000 to let people travel a day in advance
Manx Care has revealed it would cost around half a million pounds in accommodation fees to pay to send patients to the UK the day before medical appointments.
It comes after recent travel disruption at the Isle of Man Airport triggered serious concerns – and anxiety – for some patients travelling for treatment.
The Patient Transfer Service offers a £50 contribution towards necessary accommodation costs.
One listener - who's asked to remain anonymous - contacted Manx Radio to explain that their request to be transferred a day in advance, as a safety precaution in case their flight was disrupted, was denied.
They’d also requested Manx Care assist with accommodation costs but were denied access to the £50 contribution as it wasn't deemed necessary.
The individual told Manx Radio the experience was ‘traumatic’ and they’d become increasingly anxious about whether or not they'd make the appointment they've waited more than three years to attend:
