Scammers claim to be from fraud department
A member of the public has lost thousands of pounds after being caught out by a new phone scam.
Police have been receiving multiple reports of the scam, which involves a female or male caller ringing residents on an unknown number.
The caller claims they're the fraud department at the bank and that a large amount of their money has been spent at places such as Harrods or John Lewis, which they are investigating.
They are then asking people to transfer large amounts of money from one of their accounts to another internal account to keep it ‘safe’.
Police are advising not to do this and to hang up the phone.
If you have given your bank details over the phone, you're advised to contact your bank ASAP.
