Petitioner 'throws down the gauntlet' to MHKs
Those wishing to submit a petition for redress of grievance are now walking up to the foot of Tynwald Hill.
There appear to be 12 people in the procession today (5 July).
New regulations apply to petitioners this year.
It means Manx residents no longer need to prove they have a personal interest or grievance in a matter before bringing their case before Tynwald Hill.
If they sense an issue is of national importance, they can submit the petition regardless.
Once passed as fit for submission, the petition has to attract the attention of an MHK or be picked up as its termed.
Half of last year’s 16 petitions were deemed out of order.
One of today's petitioners is Simon Mann, from the North of the Island.
He is submitting two petitions regarding healthcare provision for the North, and funding for Manx Care.
Mr Mann says he is not hopeful that an MHK will pick up the majority of today's petitions - but is calling for them to reconsider:
