A new telephone system is being hailed as behind a significant drop in unnecessary phone calls to police.
The force apologised last year, after a number of residents were left unable to get through to the switchboard at Police Headquarters.
New desk staff were hired in an attempt to ease the strain.
But a simple change now means instead of being put through directly to reception, callers hear a recorded message advising them to go online for answers.
Calls to HQ have decreased by 50% since it was brought in.
Inspector Gavin Callow says it's helped staff a lot.
