A £2 million fire-fighting system has just been commissioned for the outer harbour at Douglas.
The fire pumps on Battery Pier are geared to tackle major incidents at the Island's gas and oil installations.
Local residents have been briefed on the new system, which sucks up sea water to the platform on the pier.
The task of getting everyone who might be affected up to speed, has begun.
Director of harbours Mike Brew says the briefing is both an update, and to reassure them in the event of an emergency:
