Air Accident Investigation Branch investigating 'serious incident' from August 2022
A light aircraft which landed on the wrong runway at Ronaldsway Airport last year wasn’t being observed during its final approach.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch has issued an ‘anniversary statement’ on the ‘serious incident’ which happened on 29 August last year.
After attending to a passenger, while orbiting over the sea, the pilot of the Vans RV-7 - a two-seater plane - approached and landed on Ronaldsway’s Runway 03, instead of the active Runway 08.
The AAIB says the air traffic control officer, who was attending to ground activities at the time, did not observe the aircraft during its final approach.
It adds: "The investigation has considered the importance of recovering situation awareness and adopting sterile cockpit procedures before flying an approach; and vigilance and teamwork in ATC. A final report will be published in due course."
Manx Radio has invited the Department of Infrastructure to comment.
