Tynwald backs high level strategic review
The Island's planning process can't often react as quickly as it should do and needs to be reformed.
That's the belief of Policy and Reform Minister John Shimmin who has gained Tynwald backing for the system to be simplified and de-politicised.
It follows an external strategic review of the planning application process.
Mr Shimmin told colleagues further work and consultation will now be carried out, building upon the findings of consultancy firm Envision.
It puts forward two recommendations aimed at tightening up the system and making it more transparent, including prioritising major applications and ensuring the role of politicians in the process is defined and is free from abuse.
