Plans to move Buchan School to KWC site

Private school unveils proposals designed to secure the future of independent education

It's proposed the Buchan School will move to the same site as King William's College ahead of the 2024-25 academic year.

The private school says it's part of a series of bold proposals designed to secure the future of independent education on the Isle of Man.

The proposals include relocating the Buchan School to its own dedicated facilities within the KWC site, including 33 acres of outdoor space, a beach school and play zones.

The college hopes the move would facilitate enhanced connections between age groups, a smoother transition for pupils and greater convenience for parents.

There are also set to be changes to the school day, with six timetabled lessons a day over a two-week timetable.

The school says the reorganisation of teaching would minimise transition time between classes and allow dedicated study periods for Sixth Formers.

Principal Damian Henderson, who joined the college in September 2023, says the proposals are part of a long-term strategic plan for the school to elevate the quality of education it provides.

He adds: "We are thrilled about the transformative potential of these initiatives in shaping a more enriching educational experience for our children."
