Chief Constable speaks to Tynwald committee
Addressing mental health issues directly with offenders on the Island would reduce the amount of offences committed.
That's the belief of Chief Constable Gary Roberts.
He was speaking after giving evidence to a Tynwald Select Committee investigating the severity of mental ill-health in the Island, its impact on public services and resources in place to deal with issues.
In his evidence he quoted figures from MIND which stated that 9 out of 10 offenders have mental health issues.
The Chief Constable said a different approach to those with mental health issues could yield benefits
