Liverpool man remanded in custody
A man from Liverpool has been remanded in custody after police allegedly found almost £50,000 in a hidden compartment in his car.
Forty-year-old HGV driver Thomas William Harrison, of Java Road, appeared at Douglas Courthouse.
He hasn’t yet entered a plea to a single count of attempting to remove £47,530 in criminal property from the Island.
The court heard Mr Harrison had been trying to get on a ferry, at the Sea Terminal, at around 7pm on 24 February.
Police stopped and questioned him when they reportedly smelled cannabis in his Renault Twingo and noticed he looked extremely nervous.
A drugs dog uncovered a hidden compartment under the front passenger seat - inside were said to be four sealed packages containing the cash.
He answered no comment to all questions during two police interviews after his arrest.
A bail application was refused and he was remanded in custody to appear again on 8 March.
