Douglas man arrested after incident in the north
The Isle of Man Constabulary has issued a further statement following an incident in the north of the Island yesterday (6 October).
Superintendent John Phillips says on Sunday (5 October) police, the coastguard and search and rescue dogs conducted extensive searches for a man reported missing from home, with the case treated as a 'high-risk missing person enquiry, with the man’s welfare being the primary concern'.
However, that changed yesterday afternoon, shortly before 4pm, after police received reports of a serious assault at Cornaa Beach in Maughold.
A local man had 'sustained serious injuries' and now receiving hospital treatment in the UK.
Around the same time, police say a 'second incident occurred nearby, involving another local man who was assaulted and had his vehicle stolen'.
Officers responding to this incident swiftly arrested a man from Douglas, who remains in custody.
Police say they are maintaining a 'significant presence in the Maughold area today as officers carry out scene enquiries and seek to identify further witnesses'.
Anyone with information to assist the investigation is asked to contact the Isle of Man Constabulary on 631212.
