Politicians back plan for Treasury to bring funding request for finishing horse tram track

Department must return to court in July

Treasury has been told to return to Tynwald in July with a capital funding request to finish reinstating the horse tram tracks.

Politicians have tonight (17 June) noted the draft business case put forward by the Department of Infrastructure to lay the track between the War Memorial and the Sea Terminal.

It’s a project which could cost up to £3 million.

Originally they were asked to support its progress through the capital project procedures in accordance with financial regulations.

However Douglas South MHK Sarah Maltby tabled an amendment which requested the Treasury return to the court next month with the specific ‘necessary capital funding request’:

Her amendment was supported by all of the 21 members of the House of Keys who were present in the chamber.

Of the six MLCs voting it was only Gary Clueit who voted against the plan.
