Current laws mean Deemsters would set question for public vote
The MHK calling for a referendum on proposed assisted dying laws says politicians should be able to pick the question the public would vote on.
The Island's referendum legislation currently states the question would be drafted by Deemsters.
Alfred Cannan confirmed changes to the process would be needed, and that he'd be keen for wording of the referendum to be set by members.
Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Tim Glover sought to adjourn the debate so the wording of that question could be agreed before MHKs decide whether or not the public vote is needed:
