Proposals to redevelop site announced last week
Proposals to rebuild and rejuvenate the former marine laboratory in Port Erin are being welcomed by local traders.
The collection of buildings has been sold by the Department of Infrastructure to property developer Delgatie Ltd for £500,000, having been long neglected and part-destroyed by a fire in 2016.
The company is now seeking planning permission to transform the site into what it calls 'The Breakwater', a mixture of residential, retail and commercial spaces, which includes visitor accommodation and an exhibition area.
Chairman of the Port Erin Traders Association Steve George says the facility could be a significant addition to what is already a changing sea front in the town:
