Douglas Borough Council will have been familiar for many years with the old expression "Where there's muck there's brass".
Unfortunately, in its case it's for all the wrong reasons, with the current annual bill for cleaning the promenade during the horse tram season standing at £20,000.
However, this summer councillors hoping to clean up, with trials of a new piece of equipment which will allow horses to "go" on the go, without muddying the prom.
The collapsible device will be fitted to the tram behind the horse and, subject to trials early next month, Councillor Stephen Pitts hopes it will prove a great success:
