Post Office closures in Douglas and Ramsey have been put on hold for three months after an emergency debate today (Tuesday). The House of Keys voted to postpone the closures - and relocations into nearby Spar shops – following a two hour debate, proposed by South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft. Earlier, a petition was handed to Chief Minister Allan Bell containing 1,800 signatures opposing the loss of the Regent Street branch in Douglas. North Douglas MHK John Houghton blamed the closures on the government’s decision to shift benefit payments away from the Post Office and into people’s bank accounts.
